Jennifer Vanderpool: Bread and Roses – Welbeck’s Untold Stories

American artist Jennifer Vanderpool creates artworks which examine communities shaped by industry – and how they are impacted when that industry disappears. For her exhibition at the Harley Gallery, Vanderpool explores the history of coal mining at Welbeck and the impact on local communities following the closure of the mines.
Coal Mining Stories

This exhibition brings together contemporary artworks with historic objects and archival material to explore Nottinghamshire’s mining heritage and Welbeck’s place within it.
From commemorative plates and pottery, to poetry and pencil sketches, you’ll discover work by former miners and members of the wider mining community. These personal, creative responses sit alongside archival records that reveal Welbeck’s historic relationship with the industry.
